How Category VI works

The essentials, in plain language

Who qualifies

Veterans with a 100% service-connected Permanent & Total rating travel under Category VI.

Where you can fly

CONUS plus Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Traveling solo

Under Category VI the disabled veteran flies unaccompanied — dependents generally can't travel with you.

Priority order

Six categories (I–VI). You're VI. Within a category, your sign-up date and time set your place in line.

Baggage

Generally 2 checked bags up to 70 lbs each, plus a carry-on. Seats are never guaranteed — stay flexible.

Cost

Most military flights are free. Patriot Express contract flights may charge a small head tax and meal fee.
